Family. We had a great trip to NC last weekend. It was really nice to see everyone and the kids had a great time. We did manage to get a picture of all the next generation together. Although you'd expect that getting them to all look at the camera would be impossible, it turns out that getting any of them to look at the camera was impossible. Here's a few pictures of the crew - Riley, Matt & Carah Gilmore; Max and Esme Girard, Carson and Logan Steele; Greta Merrill; and Kate and Lauren McMahon.

Charlie's Web Max's school play was performed for the parents this morning. The kids have been practicing for weeks and even helped to make the set and costumes. The retelling of Charlotte's web was done with much enthusiasm by all. Max spoke all his lines as Uncle Homer loudly and clearly. Peter and I were very proud.

Last snow? After a couple of days of weather that hinted at spring, we're having snow and sleet again. Schools are closed (probably more because they can than because they need to) and I'm taking a personal day to stay home and play with the kids. So far we've had a nice breakfast together and I managed to check my work email. But the price for that slot of time was cleaning up a box of cereal that Esme emptied onto the floor. Here's a picture from a couple of weeks ago showing the kids in a nice quiet, calm state.

Company. Peter is off for a few days of fishing in Florida - fourteen environments and forty species of fish in four days I think is the plan. And Mom and Dad arrived yesterday afternoon for a weekend visit. After picking me up at the train (still no final news on the car) we went to pick up the kids from Carolines. Max greeted them with his usual routine of running away and hiding so he could "surprise" them, and this time Esme joined him. The two of them huddling under the computer desk waiting to be found. Max gave everyone a tour of the new house - where his bedroom is now and where it will be - as well as showing off every new book or toy he may have received since their last visit. Esme charmed Grandpa into letting her play with his camera - I fully expect him to need a new one by the end of the weekend. We're all looking forward to the time together. Thanks for coming guys.

The drama of our lives. On Friday we were visited by torrential rains, which kicked off a series of unfortunate events. We had a late start to the morning. I dropped off the kids at Caroline's and came back to the house to pick up Peter so he wouldn't have to walk in the rain. Pete was was waiting for the builders to arrive and pick up a payment. The contractor was late because roads were closing throughout the area due to flooding and rain-induced accidents. The commuter train was running without problem, but just outside NY we stopped because there was a fire in one of the cars! This actually only caused a short delay to evacuate that particular train car and we made it to GCT only a few minutes behind. However, once on the subway it took me another 90 minutes to make it to my office - the subway lines were flooded and the trains weren't moving. I arrived at work around 11am and settled in for a short day. Unfortunately, that wasn't the end of the drama for the ...
