Friends

Esme's second grade class presented their spring musical performance "Friends" yesterday morning.  Esme sang a lovely duet with her friend Abby.  She claims not to have been at all nervous, and indeed it was totally charming.  Here's a picture of our diva in action, and posing with her friend after the performance.

The Milton School science fair was held on May 8th. Max and his friend Paul tested the effect of nitrogen (Miracle Grow) on plant growth.  After a false start (their sunflower seeds never sprouted, although Esme's did) the boys conducted a successful experiement using grass seed. Surprisingly they found that plain old water worked best of all - through some extra reading we learned that while Miracle Grow helps to make plants that have already sprouted grow taller, it actually inhibits seed germination.  Who knew?  Here's a couple pictures of the boys with their exhibit (and a special face for mom.)   p.s.  you know you live in Rye when one 5th grader brought in a 3D printer for his science fair exhibit.  Isn't that cheating??!!??

Peter had the honor of accompanying Esme's second grade class on their field trip last Wednesday. They spent the morning on a sailing schooner on Long Island Sound, learning about the environmental research being done.  The kids helped hoist the sales, inventoried organisms caught in the seine, and tested water quality.  Looks like they both enjoyed themselves!
