January media review
It was a very cold January. And Peter and I are now alone in NY. That's my excuse for having seen so many movies last month! First we saw Hamnet for a second time, taking Esme before she headed to the land of Will's of Anges's birth. She had not read about the movie in advance and we did not have enough tissues on hand for this family viewing. (Esme has a backstage tour of The Globe Theatre scheduled for later this semester, maybe she'll tell us about it.) Anaconda: Exactly what you'd expect from Jack Black and Paul Rudd. Surprisingly funny and a couple good jump scares by a giant snake. Plus cameos from Ice Cube and J Lo. Valued just right for $5 movie night. Is This Thing On?: Generally sweet and engaging with genuine dialogue and a recognizable cast. The Westchester/NYC scenes were recognizable to this audience.
