Esme and I traveled to Philadelphia to see one of her faves, Lizzy McAlpine, perform in her home town. I was NOT the only parent there, but admittedly there were very few people in attendance over the age of 25 I'd guess. Great music, gorgeous venue (The Met), and we got to stay overnight with friends. All-in-all a fun summer road trip!

One of our favorite summer traditions is attending plays at the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival. It's less a "festival" than a seasonal theater - they run three shows in repetoire during the summer months, at a gorgeous property overlooking the Hudson River highlands. We pack a picnic dinner before the show and hike up the hill to enjoy the view. We've been attending for over a decade now. This year, for the first time, HVSF is actually NOT performing any plays by the bard. Instead we have three new premieres to enjoy this month. The first was The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (based on Agatha Christie's novel) and was a highly entertaining romp.
