DNA camp

Max and his friend Nick attended DNA camp at Cold Spring Harbor Labs last week. They spent a week doing real science - making and looking at slides under the microscope, extracting their own DNA, and a genetic engineering experiment where they added bioluminesence from a firefly to a bacterial culture to cause it to glow in the dark.  The week culminated in a science fair like presentation for the parents at the Dolan Learning Center.  Nature magazine was well represented in the lobby exhibits, including this wall sized replica of the Human Genome draft as published in 2001.
