Baby steps.

Esme is learning to walk. Like most childhood developments, it's been at her own pace. She's been standing and crusing since the early days, but never seemed in a hurry to learn to walk on her own. But quietly, during the past few weeks she's become a toddler. Standing strong without balancing on anything, a few steps to reach the chair, a few more steps into the middle of the room. Daily progress without any dramatic revelations. Almost unnoticeable until you remember that a week ago she wasn't doing that. And now she's trying to run before she can walk, breaking into a stumbling trot before landing on her well-padded diapered bottom. Part of me says 'slow down, be careful, baby steps.' But a bigger part watches Esme's determination with pride and says 'go for it girl.'
