This is how I spend most of my time on the boat.

World Cup Champions

Image
For the second season in a row, Brazil dominated the Rye Youth Soccer U9 World Cup Tournament.  After finishing the two-Saturday, 7-game tournament with a record of 4 wins, 3 ties and 0 losses, Brazil met the Netherlands in the championship game.  The 1-1  game ended with a penalty kick tie-breaker and the coveted "Golden T."  It was a truly exciting day! I think Max's expression speaks for itself.

Chicken Soup with Rice

The Milton School Kindergarten presented an excellent musical performance of Maurice Sendak's classic poem Chicken Soup with Rice.  Each month was represented in costume and song. Esme joined some classmates for April in a beautiful Indian costume courtesy of cousin Greta. In April  I will go away To far off Spain or old Bombay And dream about hot soup all day. Oh my oh once, oh my oh twice Oh my oh Chicken Soup with Rice! Esme had been counting down the days until their play and woke up at 5:30 this morning ready to go. It took some real convincing to get her to go back to sleep for a while longer!  She'd been practicing the song at home and on the bus to school, and was almost as proud of herself today as I was.

Step this way...

Max's class 3JB invited parents to join them on Monday for an end of year music performance and student presentations on rainforest animals. The theme of the music was communication and the class spoke and sang about cave men grunting, telephones, computers, newspapers, and the importance of smiling. One of the highlights was the kids singing "Extra, Extra, Read all about it" while holding their newspapers. Only one of the students had remembered to bring one in, so the whole class was holding pages in Japanese!  The musical was followed by a visit to the library where each student presented a power point on a specific rainforest animal.  Max's was the eyelash pit viper - and yes, it actually has eyelashes!

End of Season

We had our penultimate weekend of sports last Saturday during a welcome cold snap.  It will be nice to get some free time back into our schedule this summer, but I'm actually going to miss watching soccer and baseball.  Esme was very proud to receive her trophy - she took it home and promptly decorated it with stickers!

Portraits

Finally getting around to pulling some things off my camera. Here are portraits of Max and Esme enjoying their first class airplane seats on the way to North Carolina during April break.  Don't get used to it kids!

Lets Go Green!

Esme began her soccer season two weeks ago, playing for the dark green team. Her age group plays at 8am on Saturday mornings, so she's been very thankful for the hip pink wind pants that her cousin Carah gave her.  Esme was fierce in goal last weekend, stopping multiple attempts before letting a hard kick through. I didn't manage a real action shot because I was too busy cheering (and ok, maybe shouting some instructions from the side line), but here's our number 7 on the field.
